What is counselling?
Counselling is a relational change process. Engaging with the therapist in a safe environment creates space to work through confusing or challenging material. It’s about understanding and experiencing your authentic self, not a magic bullet solution.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends. Most short-term therapy is around 12 sessions, with a minimum of 6 sessions for any meaningful change to occur. Long-term therapy is 12+ sessions. The therapist will work with you to determine what makes the most sense for your particular situation.
How often and how much will it cost?
Sessions are typically weekly, 50 minutes and £70 each. It’s best to budget for the sessions before committing to the work. Think of it as an investment in yourself, you deserve it.
Will the therapist fix me?
Clients are not considered broken. The therapist helps facilitate a process of change and growth, they don’t give advice. You have the key to your situation, the therapist’s job is to help you discover it.
What happens in the sessions?
Therapy is a chance for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in a safe environment. Think of it as your personal lab. Like everything in life, you get out of it what you put into it!
