My Journey
My journey to become a therapist started in 2004. I was working in the corporate world, and was unhappy with the path I was on. Around that time I started practicing yoga, and became more involved in a holistic way of living. The benefits were palpable, and I knew I had to not only continue on my personal health journey, but also find a way to give back.
Inspiration
After reading the best-selling book ‘The Art of Loving’ by the late psychologist Erich Fromm, I knew I wanted to become a therapist. At that point I quit my corporate job, and went back to school to study health science, and then counselling psychology. The process took many dedicated years, but I eventually reached my goal of becoming a psychological therapist.
Current Work
I moved to London from Vancouver, Canada in 2016, and have had the privilege of working with many unique individuals from all around the world both as a counsellor, and also as a community wellbeing educator. I feel fortunate to be engaged in work that really matters to me, and to see the difference counselling can make in peoples’ lives.
Finding a Therapist
Selecting a therapist can be a daunting task. Research has consistently shown that a good relationship between you and your counsellor is a major catalyst for change. Working with someone who is qualified is important, but more importantly it should be someone you feel comfortable with.
Initial Contact
Any relationship takes time to build, and begins with the first step. With me, this starts with an initial consultation to determine if we are a good fit. If so, we will ideally book a minimum of 6-12 sessions (short-term), or 12+ (long-term) weekly 50 minute sessions depending on your needs.
First Session
The first session will be a chance for you to share what brings you to counselling. You may be stressed, anxious, depressed or struggling with relationship issues. Whatever your particular concern may be, I will work with you to help determine what the underlying issue is. From there the goal is to help you move forward, and become the healthiest version of yourself possible.
Qualifications
My qualifications include a master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, and a bachelor’s degree in Health Science. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy BACP, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts RSA, and am on the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies MAPS psychedelic integration list.
